An Expansive Existence

"No sight that the human eyes can look upon is more provocative of awe than is the night sky scattered thick with stars.” - Llewelyn Powys

Once you have the opportunity to truly see the night sky, you immediately understand what Powys was talking about. With the incomprehensible vastness stretched out above, you are reminded of the wonder constantly surrounding you. It is nearly impossible to resist getting captivated by a full moon, delighted by a shooting star, or engrossed in connecting the dots of constellations to discover celestial renderings of ancient stories. Gazing at the same stars that shone for those who came before you, a sense of connectedness to the universe and everyone in it takes root.

Our team member Brandon says, “Stargazing doesn’t require anything more than the interest to look up and just take in the endless expanse of stars, planets, and galaxies. Living in the city, it’s easy to forget to simply look up. Once I pull myself outdoors, disconnect from daily life, and allow myself the time to look up, I am confronted with this incredible viewscape which is so inherently interesting and beautiful. Full of knowns and unknowns… I am reminded how small I am and how short my time in this expansive existence really is.”

Brandon adds, “Stargazing is simple to do almost anywhere. It provides a mix of meditation and science, and it allows me the opportunity to appreciate that moment outside."

If you’ve never gone stargazing or haven’t done it in a while, add it to your weekend plans. Try to get above or away from the city lights, spread out a blanket, sip a warm drink, and allow yourself to contemplate something infinitely bigger than daily life.
