First implemented in Japan, the Hori Hori Classic digging tool was originally used for careful and methodical excavating of plants, such as Sansai, in the mountains. Barebones’ unique take on this classic implement was designed with garden work in mind. Its rounded top and serrated sides make it ideal for scooping, digging, and pulling weeds. Equipped with a heat-tempered, hollowback blade, full stainless steel tang, and comfortable walnut handle, the Barebones Hori Hori Classic is the diverse garden tool you can use for a lifetime. Intentionally added twine cutter doubles as a bottle opener, so you can enjoy your choice of refreshing beverage after a hard day's work.

The Hori Hori Classic Sheath unites utility and design. Made of 900D polyester with an interior liner, it weathers real-world use while protecting the blade from dulling. Stainless steel belt clip supports easy carrying and accessibility, while the strong handle strap restricts the blade from slipping or moving. Open-end allows for easy cleaning and prevents soil buildup, preserving the blade for years of continued use.

Blade:
Apply a thin coat of protective oil after each use. Wipe clean of dirt, water, and fingerprints regularly. Use a medium to fine file to straighten out any larger dings or nicks in the blade. The edge can be honed with a medium sharpening disk or stone.

Sheath:
Waxed canvas should never be dry cleaned or machine washed. It can be cleaned carefully by hand. Brush off the loose dirt, rinse the surface with cold water, gently scrub with a brush, then let air dry. If stains persist, use mild bar soap or saddle soap.

After cleaning, waxed canvas may need to be re-waxed. To do so, use a wax conditioner and apply following the manufacturer's instructions.

Q: Why 900D Polyester?
A: 900D Polyester is water-resistant, resistant to bacteria, and very durable which makes it ideal for extended use in the outdoors.

Q: Can I store my Hori Hori Classic outside for extended periods of time?
A: The Hori Hori Classic is not meant to be stored outside for long periods of time. Extended exposure to wet conditions may cause rust and unnecessary wear and tear. We recommend storing your garden tools indoors after use to help them last as long as possible and to avoid the need to purchase a replacement.

Q: Where are Barebones garden products made?
A: Our garden products are designed in Salt Lake City, Utah, and manufactured by trusted facilities in China who meet Business Social Compliance (BSCI) or who are working towards their compliance with our support and guidance.

Single best garden tool ever!

Fabulous. I’m 84 and only wish I’d come to this tool earlier in my gardening career. This to get her with the hand hoe, and gardening is a breeze. I have an immense perennial garden and I use this tool everyday!

No 5's until its proven itself...

Purchased the Hori Hori Classic 2 years ago, admired right out of the package, top notch material and craftsmanship. BROKE handle/steel tang in first week! The original design was cheap with steel usage, the tang was approx. 1/4"+ wide and stuffed into a hardwood handle, was not designed for actual use in farmer's field. Came back later and purchased this again last month, was still looking for a replacement, the new hori hori is little too fancy and sleek. The original poor handle design appears to be 100% resolved with no shortcuts, thicker steel, harder edge and a tang that mirrors the handle. While I have not used it yet, I am hard pressed to believe this version will fail the same durability tests.
