Similar to cast iron, carbon steel needs very little daily maintenance. Simply rinse, heat, and re-oil.
• Gently clean the surface using warm water and a rag or brush with soft bristles. Do not use a steel scrubber to clean.
• Dry the surface with a clean towel.
• Place on stove top and turn heat to low to remove any remaining moisture.
• Once fully dried, turn off heat and coat the surface evenly with a thin layer of olive oil, avocado oil, or other.
Store in a cool, dry place when not in use. Wipe down after use to prevent rust.
Q: Will the hand-blued steel color fade over time?
A: Blue coloring is temporary. With proper use and maintenance, the surface will turn black over time. All carbon steels are susceptible to rust. We recommend properly cleaning and maintaining your product to produce an ideal cooking surface.
Q: Can I store my Blue Carbon Steel Skillet outside for extended periods of time?
A: The Blue Carbon Steel Skillet is not meant to be stored outside for long periods of time. Extended exposure to wet conditions will cause rust and unnecessary wear and tear. Store your skillet indoors after use to help it last as long as possible, and to avoid the need to purchase a replacement.
Q: I've heard Carbon Steel pans can warp. Is that true?
A: Due to the nature of the material, Carbon Steel pans can warp slightly depending on how rapidly and evenly they are heated or cooled. For this reason, we suggest allowing pan to both heat and cool slowly and using on cooking surfaces that heat evenly, like a gas or induction cooktops.

I was uphappy when my husband surprised me with this pan. Money spent on something I already had. I had everything (literally) that I needed. From cast iron to anodozided aluminum. He loves Barebones! I read the instructions and decided to prove I didn't need this pan. I did heat it up to remove any leftover processing residue. I heated up the pan to medium and threw some butter on the pan. One egg was all it took for me to be a follower. It hardly stuck and with a little encouragement the egg was sliding around the pan. I didn't add more butter. I was able to make an overeasy egg without breaking the yolk first try. I have decided to reduce my cast iron frying pans and use this instead. I am waiting for the smaller pan to come back in stock. I am 70 and the weight is a bit hard with cast iron. This is so very light that I can turn the pan over with one hand. How often do you need to drain a frying pan and need two hands to hold and one to prevent the food from falling out? I can do it. The cleanup is easy, no soap needed. Just rinse well with hot water and wipe clean. No soap used. No re-seasoning needed. Thank you Barebones.

I was in the market for a good carbon steel pan, because they're recommended for omlettes, and I'd like to get rid of my teflon. I selected this one because the materials looked quality and I liked the wooden handle. I particularly noticed that the handle is riveted on, rather than spot welded on, which means it won't fall off if the pan overheats. I seasoned the pans, and tried one out, and I wasn't disappointed. Eggs cook up really nicely and the seasoned surface is truly nonstick! My husband is excited to try these out on the grill next summer as well. These would also be great pans if you just need one for backpacking.
