Recipe & Photos by Tory Morrison
Start your day with a matcha latte, a delicious and energizing alternative to your morning coffee. Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder packed with antioxidants and nutrients, offering a gentle, sustained energy boost without the jitters that coffee can sometimes bring. Rich in L-theanine, matcha promotes calm focus and mental clarity, making it the perfect way to ease into your morning. It’s stronger and more earthy than typical green tea -- you’ll be hooked from the first latte.
How to Make
Matcha Green Tea Latte
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon fresh matcha powder (look for ceremonial or another high-quality option)
- Water (just below boiling, about 175°F)
- 16 ounces milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, etc.)
- Sweetener of choice (honey, maple syrup, etc.)
Materials
- Enamel-lined cast iron teapot
- Traditional matcha whisk or mini metal whisk
- Kuska Cups or coffee mugs
Instructions
- Use the Barebones Enamel Teapot strainer to sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into your cup. Sifting helps prevent clumps and ensures a smooth texture.
- Heat a small amount of water in the kettle. The water shouldn’t exceed 175°F, as higher temperatures can burn the matcha and create a bitter taste. (This might be a little trial & error while doing something like camping - you can let it come to a boil, then cool.)
- Add just enough hot water to the cup to whisk and dissolve the matcha powder. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
- Pour 16 ounces of your preferred milk into the kettle and bring it to a low boil.
- While the milk heats, add your sweetener to the matcha and water mixture, whisking to blend.
- Once the milk is heated, pour it into the cup with the prepared matcha mixture.
- Optional - use a milk frother to create milk foam, then top your latte with the frothy milk for a creamy finish.
