Story by Barebones Staff, Photos by Tory Morrison
Nestled in the stunning landscape of southern Utah, Cave Lakes Resort offers a unique glamping experience that combines the rugged beauty of nature with the comfort of modern amenities and is one of the only luxury glamping resorts that provides any kind of reprieve from the elements with fireplaces and air conditioning in all units. Located in Kanab, this resort is a gateway to some of Utah's most breathtaking natural attractions. Known for its luxurious canvas tents and serene lakeside setting, Cave Lakes Resort is the perfect destination for a relaxing and adventurous weekend getaway.
We experienced this firsthand and put together our favorite weekend itinerary to give you a starting point to enjoy everything there is to offer in this awesome glamping location. So much to do, and so little time--enjoy!
Day 1: Arrival & Dinner in Kanab
Arrive, Unpack, & Relax
As you drive along the winding road into the canyon, you'll be amazed by the sheer beauty of the Cave Lakes property once you reach the clearing. Tents and cabins are generously spaced around a central lake with a backdrop of southern Utah’s signature red rock mixed with trees and wild plants. Take a moment to soak in the peaceful surroundings before you settle into your cozy glamping tent or cabin. A camp host will greet you and make sure you have everything you need for a memorable weekend.
Dinner at Sego
After you’ve unpacked, head into the nearby town of Kanab, less than 15 minutes away, for dinner and supplies. Kanab is a super cute little town known as a basecamp for adventure seekers and nature lovers, plus it features great dining & shopping options. If you love regional new American cuisine, make a reservation at Sego Restaurant. Make sure to say hello to the owner, and friend of Barebones, Chef Shon!
Day 2: Adventure & Relaxation
Choose Your Morning Adventure
If you’re looking to adventure out, get up early, pack a breakfast, and catch the sunrise as you take a scenic drive to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, or another local attraction. The stunning landscapes offer endless opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and photography.
If you’re looking for something uber-local, check out Sand Caves, which is right across the street from the canyon entrance. This memorable hike leads you to large sand cave caverns with multiple windows.
For more options, check out: Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Coral Pink Sand Dunes National Park, the privately owned Moqui Cave, or the largest animal Sanctuary in the United States - Best Friends Animal Society.
Enjoy the Afternoon at the Resort
If you’d prefer to stay and enjoy all the amenities on the property, spend the afternoon paddle boarding on the lake, playing yard games on the communal grass area, or simply relax in a hammock or Adirondack chair with a good book. The serene environment is perfect for unwinding and recharging.
If you’re up for more local adventuring, Cave Lakes has plenty to offer through their onsite tour company ROAM Outdoor Adventure Co. Enjoy peaceful horseback rides through the canyon, embark on a UTV adventure, guided fly fishing, or try the unique thrill of Via Ferrata climbing experience at the canyon's back. This can be arranged in advance via their website or with your camp host (who might also be your tour guide!)
Sink Into The Evening
After a day full of activity, enjoy a relaxing evening at the resort. Unwind in the sauna, sip wine around the fire (each unit has a personal fire pit, or opt for the communal one if you want to be more social), and grab some roasting sticks for an easy open-fire dinner. Or just snuggle into your cozy unit, each equipped with heating and air conditioning to set the perfect temperature and mood.

Enjoy your night under the stars. Read a book, tell stories, and enjoy the solitude that this quiet and wild landscape provides.
Day 3: More Exploration & Head Home
A Refreshed Morning
Saving the best for last, take a short hike into the canyon to discover the true magic, the cave lakes. Nestled and hidden in rock enclaves, these lakes are crystal clear and crisp. Take a refreshing plunge into the cool waters (if you're feeling brave), or do some early morning fishing. There is a plentiful amount of fish swimming about!
Yoga & Brunch
After your cool dip, enjoy a yoga session in the big open grassy area. Follow it up with a coffee or tea & light breakfast at the resort or in town (locals love Jakey Leigh’s Cafe!).
Pack Up & Explore Kanab On Your Way Out
After packing up, head back into Kanab for some shopping and a final stroll around town before heading home. Have the best time!
