To clean the fire pit, first remove any debris until inside is clear. Use warm soapy water and a cloth to scrub the inside of the fire pit. Rinse thoroughly and immediately wipe dry. Re-oiling your fire pit from time to time will help reduce rust.

Extended exposure to wet conditions may cause rust and unnecessary wear and tear. We recommend covering your fire pit or storing it indoors after each use.

If rusting occurs, follow these steps for treatment.

Q: Can I store the Cowboy Fire Pit Grill outside for extended periods of time?
A: The Cowboy Fire Pit Grill is not meant to be stored outside for long periods of time. Extended exposure to wet conditions may cause rust and unnecessary wear and tear. We recommend storing your products indoors after use to help them last as long as possible and to avoid the need to purchase replacements.

The Materials

Lighter in weight than cast iron and more durable than copper, our Cowboy Fire Pit is constructed from heavy-duty steel. Steel has a naturally high melting point and is resistant to both corrosion and common weather stains. It makes this fire pit stable enough for heavy backyard use while being versatile enough to throw in the car and bring to your favorite outdoor spot. Our steel is coated with FDA-approved high-temperature paint to improve the look and feel of the fire pit.

The Inspiration

The Cowboy Fire Pit Grill is inspired by open fire cooking and mobile Chuck Wagons used in the American West after the Civil War. Before automobiles and animal trailers, cowboys moved by horse, often spending long, arduous days breaking trail with a herd of cattle by their sides. These cowboys needed to eat, and the Chuck Wagon became their daily diner on the road.

The invention of the Chuck Wagon is attributed to Charles Goodnight, a known Texas rancher. Goodnight modified a durable, manufactured covered wagon to better suit the needs of the cowboys driving cattle. These mobile food carts could now carry more goods than a cowboy could on his horse and helped feed whole groups while they traveled. Every day, hearty food was cooked over an open fire, often with cast iron, to be eaten wherever a comfortable spot could be found. The cook would pack staples that would last long journeys: salted meats, sourdough biscuits, and dried beans. They would pick up what they could as they went, but most Chuck Wagon dinners were simple, “Chuck Wagon BBQ”.

The Design

Several years ago, on a cold winter night, Our friends Jaret and Mona of Tournet met with our founder, Robert, and team to cook a wholesome meal outdoors over an open fire. As they ate, they started a discussion around what the best-ever outdoor cooking system would look like. How could we design a grill that offered real-world use for novice and expert cookers alike? What features would make it better than what is currently available on the market today?

The Cowboy Fire Pit Grill was born from this conversation. A complex grill system that’s so versatile it takes away any intimidation. It is a foolproof way for anyone interested in cooking to reconnect with nature outdoors.

We combined all basic cowboy cooking into one grill that can be just as basic as a fire pit or as complex as you’d like. This unique cooking system allows you to build your dream grill and customize your cooking experience.

    fun, social way to cook a meal

    I've been eyeballing the cowboy grills for a couple of years. This year, I finally got one. We didn't have any firewood on hand so we used charcoal for our first cooking foray with this grill, and we think we need to use firewood. When only cooking for two people, the bowl is so deep that you have to use a LOT of charcoal to get the heat high-up enough to cook a steak. But, we've had a good time with it. The side table and overhead bar for hanging utensils are brilliant. I'm looking forward to making a cast-iron pot stew next. Excellent grill set-up. Nicely made.

    Great camping grill

    We go camping for two weeks every summer and we replaced our old firepit with this one, and we loved it. The legs put it high enough that cooking over it was much easier than a lower one, and as a bonus, the smoke (stupid green wood!) floated over people's heads instead of into faces. We cooked over this fire every day, and it never let us down.
